Near Conway, AR is the Cadron Settlement. Blockhouse is a replica of a structure that was built in the late 1700's as there are several
references to it in old French and Spanish Documents. The house was part of a settlement on a bluff overlooking the Arkansas River upriver from Little Rock. Over various times, the Blockhouse was used as a trading post,
residence, and a refuge from Osage Indians. During the Civil War, the Rock of Ages Massacre happened here which was the last stand of
Confederate Troops north of the
Arkansas River. The settlement was a steam boat landing during the early steam boat period and was the first stop upstream from Little Rock. In the early 1800's, five tribes of Indians passes though here when they were relocated during the forced removal from the southeast to the Oklahoma Territory. Most articles talk of them traveling overland resulting in the "Trail of Tears". However, thousands also traveled by water and the Arkansas River was one of the routes.

Sand was being dug up from the river and loaded onto barges.

Little Rock Air Force Base is home of the C-130 Combat Airlift squadron. They were flying
maneuvers in the area of the
Cadron Settlement today and I had my camera and zoom lenses ready after they made a few passes over us. I've seen 1 or 2 flying together before but they were flying 5 of them in formation. It was hard to believe they could stay up in the air since they were flying so slow.
